About

Hi. I’m Mercury. I’m an AuDHD, nonbinary transmasc, Hapa third culture adult with rapid cycling hypomania who has decided to put down roots in suburban North Carolina after feeling more or less like I didn’t fit in with any of the eight countries and five states I tried living in. I live in a 70s split level house with my very small tuxedo cat, my very involved Irish and Filipino ancestors, and a host of Old Gods who have chosen to take the place of the family from whom I have estranged myself for safety reasons.

Why North Carolina? After a few years living in the American South, I have come to really enjoy the passive-aggressive social culture. It’s great for me as a visible gender-nonconformist who grew up in places where the general public is *openly* aggressive. Here I can pretend people are just being nice, and it does wonders for my disposition.

Also, and perhaps more importantly, the quality of the fruits and vegetables I can get here is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived in the United States. This matters a lot since I spent most of my formative years in Asia and Europe, where produce isn’t typically factory farmed.

What is this internet space for? It’s a testing ground for future work. This space and its (lack of) design are placeholders for the proper, actual website that will launch at the same domain over the Winter Solstice.

At launch this space will be more like a third culture pagan lifestyle magazine, with separate blog pages for the different subjects I want to address, all springing from the well of global mythology, folk magic, and spiritual practice. Until launch, I’m simply free writing here to see what happens. So far it’s evolving as a food blog, but I hope to integrate more variety with time.
